One of my 2012 goals is to focus on characters in my personal art. Here is the first one of 2012. Based on a drawing that was given to me as a gift from a past co-worker and good friend of mine, Jeremy Vanhoozer. Check out his awesome blog The Paper Robot!

With time quickly running out I had to get the high poly done and finished. Now I need to build the low-poly, UV map, and texture it.

Bit of an update. Fleshing out some ideas more. Have a ton to do still.
Started working on Ghost Rider in zbrush. Since I mostly do low-poly environment art at work I’m a bit out of practice with zbrush. Had to go back and watch some tutorials.

While watching/listening to those tutorials I cranked out this little low-poly cyclops guy. I’d like to take him into 3d coat to try out their poly paint tools.

And here is a third character I’ve been working on this week, something for a game idea I had. Used the base mesh I created for the Ghost Rider.

Lots going on and so little time!
A couple of weeks ago the Comicon Challenge 2011 started. You can read more about it here. Comicon Challenge 2011
I figured I’d participate. It’s nice to mix things up a bit with a character that’s more than a speed sculpt. And even though I mostly do environments at work, I still enjoy doing characters. I chose Ghost Rider as a flying ace in WW1.
To start things off I put together a reference sheet of images that help set the design and mood of the character. I really wanted to go with something that’s a mix of the Red Baron and the traditional Ghost Rider.

Then I modeled out a quick base mesh to get a good start on the basic proportions.

And here are some progress shots.

Just about ready to take into zbrush!
I did this for an art challenge. I’d like to finish it up and then texture it.
Just have to find the time.
